Song: Childhood – ‘Solemn Skies’

Childhood’s new song and video provide a partnership that could well be the most aesthetically pleasing combo you’ll find ANYWHERE at this moment in time. Ben Romans Hopcraft’s vocal is as soft as a baby’s bum, grouping together in blanketed, swooping harmonies in the chorus, while the ‘Solemn Skies’ guitar track is as dumpy and sweet as it is catchy. The pastel-coloured blurs of the video emphasise the warmness of these sounds as we get a glimpse of the loveable young faces of this talented quartet, dressed in flowery shirts and brightly-coloured rain macs. All the merits of the track are summed up in the clichéd final shot: a rainbow cast over the sea.

Oh, and to make matters better, there’s an alternative version of the track available mixed by legendary Spacemen 3 and Spectrum member Sonic Boom. Now THAT’s impressive.
